Hall of Fame Lesson 2
December 5, 2013
Our course will now focus on artists who have already been inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Students will choose one group or artist and do a presentation about why he/ she/ they are so influential, like in this Prezi that I prepared to show students what I expect.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
November 23, 2013
Today I get to indulge in my guilty pleasures by sharing some videos by some of my favourite artists who happen to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Students will view the videos and try to determine the criteria upon which they were selected. They will end the class by writing a persuasive paragraph about one of this year's nominees, arguing why he/ she/ they should be inducted.

As the students complete their presentations about their favourite songs and how they are structured, we are going to continue to examine how songs are crafted. Specifically, we will be watching the documentary, Composing The Beatles Songbook. It explores how The Beatles crafted their songs later in their career with a variety of interviews and music videos.

Music appreciation project simplified
Students have asked me to simplified what they need to do for the project so here it is:
1. Song Structure (chorus, verse, solo, bridge, etc.): explain what you hear, what instruments are used and what is repeated, also explain why you think the artist made these decisions
2. Song style: explain what style the song is (dance, ballad, rock song, etc.) and why the artist chose this style, how they want to make the listener feel and how they achieved this
3. How the song makes me feel and how I think the artist achieved that

Student song presentations
September 19, 2013
By using the success criteria in the previous lesson, students will select a favourite song to analyse and present to the class. the following rubric will be used to assess the projects. Students will be encouraged to use prezi, an online presentation software to prepare their presentations. The best reason to use prezi is because it is platform agnostic, meaning that it is web based and will work on any type of computer. Click this link to view the sample Prezi I created to show the students how I want their presentations to look. http://prezi.com/654h7manyiky/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy

Song Structure
September 5, 2013
The following lesson will explore typical song forms. In class we will discuss how songs are structured. I will ask the class for examples of songs that they know that follow these structures. I will use Andrea Bocelli's "Con ti Partiro" (I'll Go With You) as well as Katy Perry's "Roar." as examples. Please see below for the learning goals and success criteria. Next class, students will have to bring in a song of their choice and explain its structure to the class.
