I am proud to publish details about what we'll be working on this year in our classes. The students will work hard all year to learn and expand their understanding of the world around them, whether it's in English class, guidance, religion or art. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about your daughter's education.
Update about Mental Health Project

On November 8 and 9, we had the chance to go to Toronto to talk about our project at the annual TLLP wrap-up conference. I managed to take a moment of Education Minister Liz Sandal's time (see photo) to tell her how important I believe mental health issues are for our students. I got to talk to Ms. Sandals and many other educators around the province about the work we are doing at Marymount to make sure that we are promoting healthy living with our students.
Our Kind Club has started to meet and we will be viewing the movie, Finding Kind at the beginning of December. It is an excellent program for all of our students to bond, get involved and make our school an even kinder place.

Teacher research project about mental health (tllp)

In the 2012-2013 school year, I worked on a project with my colleagues (Ms. Fahner, Ms. Geddes, Mrs. Jutila and Mrs. White) that took an in-depth look at what we can do about the escalating levels of anxiety and depression in adolescent girls. We were responsible for staff training about the subject as well as various programs for the students like a Stressbusters workshop with the Family Enrichment Centre for secondary students, the organization of our first Reel Girls Film Festival, the viewing of the powerful documentary "Finding Kind" and a workshop for elementary students about stress management. We have also found that the frank discussion of this subject has led to a more open attitude in the school, helping to break down stigma about mental health. Please take a look at the links below, especially our TLLP blog (click on the image to your left) that details our journey this year.
